Abstract
Bu çalışma, Adam Smith’in iktisadi düşüncelerinin kendinden önceki iktisadi düşüncelerle olan ben-zerlik ve farklılıklarını tespit etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmanın temel sorusu, Adam Smith’in iktisadi düşün-celeri, Ortaçağ iktisadi düşüncelerinin bir devamı mıydı, yoksa onlardan farklılaşarak bir kırılmayı mı temsil etmekteydi şeklinde formüle edilebilir. Söz konusu soruya cevap vermek için A. Smith’in iktisadi düşüncelerinin ondan öncekiler ile benzeşip benzeşmediği, başka bir deyişle, Ortaçağ düşüncelerinden bir sapmayı temsil edip etmediği çözümlenecektir. Elde edilmesi umulan sonuç, getirdiği düşünsel yenilikler ile Adam Smith’in büyük ölçüde Ortaçağın, hatta onun da öncesine uzanan iktisadi düşüncelerden bir kopuşu temsil eden yenilikçi bir felsefeci-iktisatçı olduğudur. Son tahlilde, neden olduğu düşünsel kırılmalar ile Smith’in, Ortaçağ iktisadi düşüncelerini dönüştüren devrimci-yenilikçi bir düşünür olarak kabul edilmesinin gerçeğe yakın olduğudur.

Abstract
This study aims to pin down how the economic thoughts of Adam Smith matched and differed from the economic thoughts that preceded him. The main question of the study can be formulated as such: were the economic thoughts of Adam Smith a continuation of Medieval economic thoughts, or a representation of differentiation and thus a breakaway from them? To answer this question, it will be analyzed whether the economic thoughts of Adam Smith are similar to those that preceded him; in other words, whether it represents a departure from Medieval thoughts. The anticipated conclusion is that Adam Smith, with his intellectual innovations, is mainly a progressive philosopher and economist who represents a breakaway from economic thoughts dating back to the Medieval Age, or even further back. In the final analysis, it appears more truthful to accept Smith as a revolutionary-innovative thinker who transformed the Medieval economic thoughts with the intellectual breaks he conducted to.
