Abstract

Urban actors have certain powers within their legal rights in decisions taken in cities and in the formulation of urban policies. Therefore, they are in a very effective position in terms of ensuring gender equality in cities. Women-Friendly-Cities project is to be placed in the city's points of gender equality in Turkey today, including the first since 2006 in 6 provinces began to be implemented in 12 provinces. In this study, it is aimed to determine the existence of the contribution of the city actors towards gender equality in Zonguldak, which is a city where women friendly city program is not implemented and the knowledge and perception levels of the actors related to the program. While some of the actors carried out awareness raising activities in order to ensure gender equality in the city; there are also city actors who do not work on the subject. Within the scope of the study, the findings obtained by interviewing the city actors by face-to-face interview method are evaluated by qualitative research method. It is also the expected positive result that the study will help to raise awareness and accelerate this process.
